I recently tagged along on a weekender with my girlfriend and her family to Asheville, North Carolina. Sure, there is Biltmore and Broad Street, but the focus of our three days there was hiking and the outdoors. If Panem were a true place, then the parks of Asheville would be District 12. In fact, the movie, the Hunger Games, actually had some scenes filmed at DuPont Forest.
Another highlight of the trip was the food. Asheville has a culinary culture worth experiencing, but I am saving that for the next trip. Last weekend, we cooked our dinner by the fire-- a hobo tribute but with the finest shrimp, hot sausage, and vegetables tightly wrapped in tin foil. Dessert followed with s'mores-- we did not want to break tradition there.
Although a short trip, it was filled with many pleasant memories. I can't wait to go back again.
